On Fiji we had booked in advance at a reasonable hotel in Nadi, Horizon Beach Resort
Atle (22) had arrived a few hours before us. He travelled directly from Norway to Fiji.

We stayed 4 days in Nadi, - relaxing, swimming, shopping and had trips aound by taxi.

Horizon Beach Resort was a hotel much used by backpackers, travelling world wide, many of them for more than half a year. Most of them were yougsters, but there were also some in their second youth

	At the airport we were met by taxis and mini-cabs from various hotels, - free transport.

	We were quick to check the beach, under the coconuts.

	Garbage disposal was primitive on Fiji. Much was burned on open fire in the backyard. Our hotel had also a garbage fire. I guess the next neighbour got the odour -

	Sunset View south-west towards Nadi.

	There were two big stores in Nadi selling handicraft and souvenirs. There were high quality, pleasant sales staff and fair prices (no bargaining). This picture from Jack's Craft.

	Lots of nice bags.

	Eirin and Atle hired kayaks at the beach.

	Atle made pictures with his waterproof camera.

	Ram Khelawan, the local taxi-driver, was a very pleasant fellow. We hired him two days for touring.

	We passed by a river were the villagers had their Saturday bath.

	Hilly landscape with small sugar plantations.

	We learned how to peel and chew sugar canes. It tasted like juice. Ram told us it was as healthy as juice, - unrefined sugar.

	In Lautoka there was the main reception of sugar. A lot of trucks were lined up with their loads.

	In Lautoka there also was a fishing port.

	Ram had an appintment with some golf friends, so he could not stay long in Lakota. We wanted to use more time, so we took the local bus back to Nadi.

	I sat in the front of the bus, while Eirin sat in the rear and made this picture. The bus was well air-conditioned -

	Sunday we hired Ram for a drive southwords to the Natadola beach. We passed by the a Hindu temple in Nadi.

	We passed some narrow bridges on our way to the beach. This bridge was originally built for railway.

	There were caves.

	Back at the hotel we sat at the veranda sorting shells. It was not legal til take corals out of the country.

	Atle had arrived before us, and were still a bit drowsy and jetlagged after his flight from Oslo.

	The view north towards Laukota. The mountain ridge was called "the Sleeping Giant".

	We had dinner at the hotel. It was good and reasonable. We became familiar with a little gecco who was catching flies in the window.

	Here we are at a handicraft market in Nadi.

	She enjoyed her business.

	Atle joined a diving tour by a diving club near by the hotel. They were at the "Fish Market" on the reef in sea near Nadi.



	Saturday we had a ride to villages up in the hills east of Lakota, in the mountains of "The Sleeping Giant".

	Ram took us way out on small roads. He drove slowly - good for us and good for the car.

	Ram was a clever guide. He told about the local farmes who grew sugar on contract. We stopped to get a taste sample

	There was a rail track in Nadi and Lakote for sugar transportation.

	After the mountain ride we drove down to Lautoka. There were market days in celebration of South Pacific Olympic Games. The market and streets were very lively.

	The bus ride was an adventure of its own. There were many passengers, people who had been on the Lakota market

	The Landscape was green and furtile. In an area there was a pine plantation. It reminded us of Norway.

	Så kom vi til Natadola. Ram parkerte i et skogholt, og sa at her ville han ta ein lur. Vi kunne vere så lenge vi ville - utan noe vente-takst.

	Natadola was a beatuful long and clean beach.

	There was an annoying wind at the beach. We walked to the southern end to find a calm spot.

	Nice shells.

	We went to Tourist Information in Nadi. It was a private business, not an offcial office. We booked accomodation and boat tickets for two resorts in the Yasawa islands
